Look for the First Edition Label
Daisy Maryles with Dick Donahue -- 9/1/97
The #1 fiction bestseller (and certainly this summer's sleeper), Charles Frazier's Cold Mountain, features an extra bonanza for anyone who bought one of the 25,000 copies that comprised the novel's first edition. According to MFE Collectors' Bookline, a San Rafael, Calif.-based newsletter for collectors of first-edition fiction, the Atlantic Monthly title has begun to hit some dealer catalogues with a $50 price tag (the book retails for $24). The newsletter also reports that some signed first editions have gone for $85.
