Clancy's Power Play
Daisy Maryles, with Dick Donahue -- 12/1/97
It's 1999, and the sudden death of Russia's president has thrown the Russian Federation into chaos. Sounds like a situation made to order for Tom Clancy -- and, as the bestselling author demonstrates in his latest adventure yarn, he's clearly up to the task. Today marks Berkley's official pub date for Tom Clancy's Power Plays: Politika, which last week jumped into the top spot on PW's mass market list. But the big news is not this title's blockbuster status, but the fact that it's accompanied by a multiplayer PC "game of intrigue and espionage" produced by Clancy's year-old company, Red Storm Entertainment Inc. For the first time, a single-player version of the game is packaged with the book in the form of a mini-CD; in addition, Berkley and Headland Digital Media have launched a Politika website (www.politika.power-plays.com). Technology might just be ahead in this game.
