Move Over, Dr. Laura?
Judy Quinn -- 12/8/97
That may be in the minds of the folks at Crown who signed popular radio talk-show host Dr. Joy Browne to a mid-six-figure, two-book deal, and plan to make the first book in the deal, the tentatively titled 9 Fantasies That Will Ruin Your Life and the Eight Realities That Will Save You, the house's lead fall 1998 title. Executive editor Sue Carswell will serve as editor on the book and indeed Crown editorial director Steve Ross, in announcing the deal, told PW that the house is hoping for a hit along the lines of HarperCollins's success with Dr. Laura Schlessinger. Browne isn't new to books; Q&A compilations of her radio show were published by S&S in the 1980s, but her show's reach has tripled since then, from 100 stations to 300 nationwide. Brown is also the author of IDG Books' upcoming Valentine's Day title, Dating for Dummies.
