Hemming Named RH Publisher
-- 2/9/98
Cathy Hemming, formerly president of Penguin International, decided to take advantage of a rumored longstanding offer and has been named executive v-p and publisher of Random House adult trade books, effective February 11. She will report to Ann Godoff, who was recently named president and editor-in-chief of the Random House trade publishing group.
Godoff described Hemming as "the consummate publishing professional." Hemming began her publishing career as an independent bookseller and held positions at the Atlantic Monthly Press, Simon &Schuster, Warner Books and Ingram before joining Viking in 1991 as v-p of marketing. She was named associate publisher of Viking Penguin in 1993, and became senior v-p and executive director of Penguin USA in 1996.
