Roxane Farmanfarmaian -- 2/9/98
Cedco Publishing Company of San Rafael, Calif. announced a 70% increase in sales for the first six months of fiscal 1998 ended October 31. Cedco reported net sales of $28.6 million, up from $16.8 for the same period last year. In fiscal 1997, the company more than tripled its sales from the year before, growing to $43.5 and CEO Charles Ditlefsen projects that sales for fiscal 1998 will reach $75 million.
In a move reflecting its growth curve, Cedco has established an in-house marketing department and hired Maria Hjelm as marketing director. Before joining Cedco, Hjelm, was at Collins Publisher as marketing director; she will be responsible for advertising, publicity, promotion and merchandising. In addition, Lara Star, formerly with Conari, has joined as a publicist.

Beginning next year, Cedco has obtained the rights to produce calendars featuring the Rolling Stones, as well as classic Disney characters such as Peter Pan and Cinderella. It will also be producing a calendar to coincide with Disney's new film Mulan.
