Brown's Numbers are Definitely 'Phat'
-- 6/8/98
Sandra Brown is gearing up for a big June month. Fat Tuesday, about murder and revenge during Mardis Gras in New Orleans, lands on the national charts the first week of the month with 1.5 million copies after two trips to press. The Warner paperback follows one year after the successful publication of the hardcover edition, which had about 430,000 copies in print. The publisher is launching an aggressive ad campaign that ties in with Brown's newest hardcover, Unspeakable, which will laydown on June 10 with a 500,000-copy first printing. Plans include TV ads in six major cities, transit ads and a consumer contest (coupons are on point-of-sale risers and in books) in which a reader could win a weekend for two in New Orleans. The author will be visiting bookstores next week in Florida, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Combined printings of Brown's more than 60 novels total more than 50 million in 29 languages.
