Gerhardt Retiring As 'SLJ' Editor
-- 6/15/98
Lillian N. Gerhardt, editor-in-chief of School Library Journal for 32 years, much of the magazine's existence, is retiring at the end of August, after a career in which she won a sheaf of honors.
"Her beautifully crafted editorials, as well as her orchestration of the editorial content of SLJ, have made it the most consequential publication in the field," said publisher Fred Ciporen in a memo announcing Gerhardt's retirement.

During her long career, Gerhardt won awards from the ALA, a Jesse Neal award from the American Business Press for outstanding editorial writing, and several medals of excellence, also for editorials, from Cahners, SLJ's parent company.

Her successor as editor-in-chief will be Renee Olson.
