Lena Tabori Quits STC; Leslie Stoker Succeeds
-- 6/15/98
Lena Tabori has resigned as president and publisher of Stewart, Tabori &Chang, and Leslie Stoker, who worked for the company for many years until 1992, will return as v-p and publisher.
The announcement, which was made by Michelle Sidrane, president and CEO of STC's parent company, U.S. Media Holdings, said they were "saddened by Lena's decision to leave STC, and we wish her the very best. Her accomplishments in revitalizing STC provide the foundation for future growth and success."

Tabori told PW she felt her decision was "best for STC and best for my company, Welcome Enterprises," the publisher and packager she founded in 1983, and to which she will return. Its titles will continue to be distributed by STC.

Tabori was one of the founders of STC and returned to it after a 10-year absence five years ago -- a period in which it regained its position as a premier publisher of illustrated books and, according to Tabori, increased its sales from $8 million to over $21 million a year, publishing more than 175 titles.

Stoker joined STC in 1982 as senior editor, became v-p and editor-in-chief two years later, and publisher in 1992. She left in 1993 to launch Artisan Press at Workman, and worked most recently as editorial director at GT Publishing in Los Angeles.
