B&N.com and 'Reader's Catalog' in Partnership
Steven M. Zeitchik -- 7/13/98
Barnesandnoble.com and The Reader's Catalog have struck a pact under which the online bookseller will incorporate blurbs from the 40,000-title annotated Catalog as well as the Catalog's database into its site. The Catalog, an exhaustive collection of literary and scholarly titles, will also have a full electronic version placed on the B&N.com site. The deal will make it easier for book buyers to purchase any book in the 1968-page print catalogue from B&N.com.
The agreement also gives BarnesandNoble.com customers easy access to the New York Review of Books and Granta, which are grouped together with Reader's Catalog on the www.nybooks.com site. Under the deal, B&N.com users will soon be able to jump to these publications from the B&N.com site, while browsers on the nybook.com site can jump to B&N to order books.

Unlike many of B&N.com's affiliates, www.nybooks.com will not earn a commission on sales generated by traffic from its site to the online bookseller, for fear of compromising its "editorial integrity."
