IDG Books Has 30% Third-Quarter Gain

A 56% increase in sales in its technology book group helped boost sales in IDG Books' third quarter, ended June 30, 1998, to $34.3 million, a 30.8% increase over the third quarter of fiscal 1997. The technology books represented 40% of IDG's total sales in the most recent quarter, compared to 33.5% in the third quarter of fiscal 1997. Sales of IDG's Dummies line rose 18.1% in the quarter, to $20.5 million, or 60% of total revenues.
Net income in the quarter rose 66.5%, to $1.9 million.

Sales for the nine-month period increased 19.8%, to $106.2 million, and net income rose 43.2%, to $8.8 million. In this period, sales of Microsoft-related titles accounted for approximately 50% of IDG's revenues.
