Jack Romanos, president of the Simon &Schuster consumer group, has announced a number of appointments to a newly created management team. The team will oversee the back-office and other support services for the consumer unit once the sale of S&S's educational and professional publishing divisions to Pearson has been completed.

Named to the position of senior v-p, operations, is Phil Duva. Duva, who has been senior v-p and general manager of the consumer group, headed the group's transition team. When the consumer unit becomes a stand-alone operation, Duva will manage all S&S operations, which include information systems and technology, warehousing and production. In addition, Duva will be responsible for all shared service operations that had been provided by S&S corporate. Under terms of the sale, Pearson has agreed to provide customer service, credit, accounts receivable, order processing, facilities, transportation and purchasing functions for the consumer group for the next several years. Duva's appointment is effective immediately, as is the appointment of Jim Young to the post of senior v-p, human resources. Young held a similar position with the consumer group.

Two other appointments that will take effect when the sale is completed are that of Sam Judd and Lisa Rivlin. Judd will serve as S&S's senior v-p and chief financial officer. In addition to overseeing all financial functions of the company, Rudd will assist Romanos with strategic planning and new business development. Rivlin will be joining S&S as senior v-p, general counsel. Rivlin is currently v-p and associate general counsel for Viacom. Duva, Young, Judd and Rivlin will all report directly to Romanos.
