It's not often that the acquisition of a book is announced at a meeting of the International Monetary Fund, but that was the case today with a new title by international multibillionaire financier and philanthropist George Soros, which PublicAffairs is rushing out for an early December sale date with a first printing of 50,000. The Crisis of Global Capitalism is about something that affects every American stockholder. Peter Osnos, who acquired the book, said that Soros explores how economic theory and practice have combined to create the current worldwide market crisis and how pursuit of an open society can help to ease it. Geoff Shandling will be the editor, and Perseus foreign rights director Carolyn Savarese will be selling the book's rights at Frankfurt.
