Peter Turner, who started at Shambhala Publications Inc. 10 years ago as an intern, has been named president and executive editor of the Boston-based company. He was most recently senior editor. Before coming to Shambhala in 1988, Turner was a bookseller at WordsWorth Books in Cambridge, Mass.

Turner will replace founder and owner Samuel Bercholz, who is stepping down from day-to-day management of the company after 30 years. Bercholz will continue as chairman and editor-in-chief and will also develop new business ventures.

In other staff changes, v-p Dan Barrett has resigned after 16 years with Shambhala. His job will be divided between Leonard Jacobs, who has been promoted to director of marketing and sales, and Jennifer Pursley, who has been promoted to marketing manager.

Shambhala Publications is a privately held company that specializes in books on religion, philosophy and the arts, publishing 60-70 titles a year.
