Beverly Lewis, a vice-president and senior editor at Bantam, died suddenly on May 24 after collapsing on a Manhattan street. She was 51.

A longtime fiction and nonfiction editor, Lewis was the editor of dozens of bestselling books, including recent titles by Dean Koontz and Michael Palmer, nine novels by Jonathan Kellerman, and autobiographies by Patty Duke, Twyla Tharp and Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf. Lewis previously held editing positions at Pocket Books, Dell and Harcourt. She joined Bantam as a consulting editor in 1986 and became a senior editor in 1991. At the time of her death, Lewis was at work on the autobiography of Sen. John Glenn, to be published this fall.
