Golden Books has signed a three-year licensing agreement to publish a range of Pokémon books and products. The agreement, which had been in the works for several weeks (News, May 17), was signed with Leisure Concepts, the licensing agent for Nintendo, which developed the Pokéman characters that are featured in a bestselling video game and popular television show.

Golden plans to ship 17 books as well as novelty products to bookstores and mass merchandise outlets starting in August. Products will include coloring and activity books and storybooks at prices between $3.99 and $9.99. In addition to books, Golden will produce collectible postcards, stickers and tattoos. The company has U.S., Canadian and Australian rights. "This is only the beginning of what promises to be a lucrative future with Pokémon and Golden Books," company chairman Richard Snyder said.
