Diane Patrick -- 3/6/00

Bowker has unveiled booksinprint.com 2000, an enhanced version of its online subscription-based reference tool.

The new online version 0f the 128-year-old directory containing 3.2 million titles is a password-protected subscription service. It lists information for more than 165,000 publishers, distributors and wholesalers, plus confirming stock availability from major suppliers. Among the sites featured are a library of more than 200,000 book jackets, 385,000 full-text reviews; author biographies; the PW bestseller database and 12 other bestseller lists, including those of the New York Times and Amazon.com; as well as easier search capabilities.

The fee for Web subscribers is $1,850 for a single site/single user, and $2,495 for a single site/multiple user. These rates do not include access to book review content.

Angela D'Agostino, director of product development for Bowker, called the new booksinprint.com "a multifaceted tool for collection development, acquisitions and patron or customer questions for libraries, bookstores and publishers. While other sources of bibliographic information are designed to sell books, our focus is to collect, verify and distribute accurate book data."
