Risher Leaves AAP, Founds Consulting Firm
Paul Hilts -- 6/12/00

After 23 years at the Association of American Publishers, Carol Risher is leaving her post as v-p, copyright and new technology, to co-found a technology consulting business, Savantech.com. Risher will be senior v-p of business development, publishing, helping publishers and other rights holders choose among the many digital commerce products and services available, in order to enter the digital marketplace in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

"I co-founded Savantech with the objective of working on behalf of publishers, promoting a framework for integration of internal systems with those of trading partners and other Net commerce service providers," Risher told PW. "Publishers must design today with tomorrow in mind. We will build on the work I have already done with DOI and ONIX, using Savantech's digital Commerce Framework to help publishers adapt the best third-party products to their legacy systems."

Other officers of the new company include CEO Prasad Ram; S. Ramakrishnan, president of software development; and Rob Schuler, v-p of solutions. Savantech employs more than 100 people in Los Angeles and Bangalore, India.

Ram and Schuler were formerly involved in the foundation of Xerox Corp.'s ContentGuard Digital Rights Management software suite.
