BOMC Offers New King Writing Book
Calvin Reid -- 10/9/00

Fans of On Writing (Scribner), Stephen King's new book on the writer's craft, won't have to wait long for more of King's views on the writer's life, although they'll have to join Book-of-the-Month Club to get them.

BOMC is offering Secret Windows: Essays and Fiction on the Craft of Writing by King, an exclusive BOMC title, to new and current club members. Arthur Goldwag, BOMC executive editor, told PW that the new title was produced in collaboration with Scribner and had King's blessing. Goldwag said it "was one of those fortuitous inspirations that began as wishful thinking and surprised everyone by actually coming to pass."

Goldwag said the book is "complementary" to On Writing and includes hard-to-find essays, obscure interviews and articles, unpublished fiction and some juvenilia. Peter Straub has written an introduction, and Kathy Kiernan, director of book development at BOMC, organized the bulk of the research. "It will appeal to a lot of people, and it shows the kind of things a book club can do," Goldwag said.
