Combined Publishing Acquires Savas
Jim Milliot -- 10/9/00

Military history publisher Combined Publishing has acquired Savas Publishing Co. for an undisclosed price. Focusing on Civil War books, Savas has a backlist of about 50 titles. Bob Pigeon, president of Combined, said he will maintain the Savas imprint and plans to publish six to eight books under the imprint in 2001 and 10 titles annually thereafter.

Savas's editorial offices, currently in Mason, Iowa, will move to Sacramento, Calif., by the end of October, and Ted Savas will continue as publisher of the imprint. Sales, marketing and back-office operations will be moved to Combined's Conshohocken, Pa., offices by the end of the year.

The Savas purchase is Combined's second acquisition this year. In March, it acquired Sarpedon Publishers (News, Mar. 13). The addition of Savas, along with titles from its foreign distribution clients, gives Combined a backlist of approximately 800 titles.
