Changes effective first of the year

Effective January 1, 2001, Andrews McMeel Publishing will become the North American copublisher for books and calendars created by Anne Geddes. Geddes's works have been distributed in the U.S. by Cedco Publishing. The AMP agreement is with Photogenique Publishers, the Auckland, New Zealand, division of Hodder Headline that was established specifically to market Geddes's books and calendars worldwide.

AMP has been distributing Geddes's work in Canada for more than two years, and AMP president Tom Thornton said, "We are very pleased that Andrews McMeel is now consolidated as copublisher." Since 1994, Geddes's books have sold more than 14 million copies worldwide. Next year, AMP will publish three new Geddes titles and will assume distribution of selected titles from her backlist; three backlist titles are set for distribution next spring. AMP will also publish five Geddes calendars in 2001, including the first full-color day-to-day calendar.

Cedco said it was sorry to lose the Geddes line, but comforted itself by announcing that it had won the licensing rights to develop stationery books and paper gifts based on Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Cedco expects to launch its first products this month, and the initial list will include address books, big sticker books, backpack books and student planners.
