This year's Whitbread Children's Award, an annual British award that carries a prize of £3,500, was announced on January 23. Top honors went to Coram Boy by Jamila Gavin (Mammoth), a novel set in 18th-century England, which FSG will publish this October. The shortlist for the award consisted of the following titles: Heaven Eyes by David Almond (Hodder), Arthur: The Seeing Stone by Kevin Crossley-Holland (Orion) and Troy by Adèle Geras (Scholastic).
