On Tour Far From Home

Beatrice Biira, the 16-year-old subject of the picture book Beatrice's Goat by Page McBrier, illus. by Lori Lohstoeter (Atheneum/Schwartz, Feb.), is making the rounds on a U.S. tour. Biira lives in Uganda and is in the States for an eight-week publicity tour arranged by Heifer Project International, a charity that provides food- and income-producing animals in resource-poor countries. S&S joined the efforts, arranging bookstore appearances amid Biira's speaking engagements for HPI around the country.

Beatrice's Goat, which features an afterword by Hillary Rodham Clinton, is now in its third printing, following Biira's appearances on Good Morning America and in the pages of InStyle magazine. S&S has produced a free bookstore reading guide, which can be ordered through sales reps (ISBN 0-689-01723-5). For more information about the kit, e-mail gayley.carillo@simonandschuster.com.
