Andrew Weil, popular author of alternative-medicine titles published by Knopf, has signed an exclusive five-year multimedia partnership with Rodale that does not involve new books. Instead, Weil joins the board of the publisher's Prevention magazine and will contribute to it on a regular basis. Rodale will also gain direct-mail rights to sell Weil's books. Steve Murphy, Rodale's president and chief operating officer, announced the partnership, which was signed by Weil's agent, Richard Pine at Arthur Pine Associates, and Rodale's Tami Booth, saying he was delighted to welcome "this inspiring author and trusted teacher." Future plans under the deal include new print vehicles, custom-published information and radio, TV and newspaper projects.
