In a move it said is aimed at strengthening its core publishing business, Thomas Nelson has eliminated 20 positions in its book publishing division. The job cuts come as Nelson prepares to reduce the number of titles it publishes and to focus on books that will sell in larger numbers. "We were publishing too many books that had limited commercial appeal. We're raising the threshold," said Nelson v-p Joe Powers, referring to both the quality of the books and the numbers they can sell. He said there has been no decision regarding the number of titles Nelson will cut.
