Feature: Backlist
Issue: Oct. 29, 2001
Send Info: Daisy Maryles
Deadline: Sept. 20, 2001

Needed: This feature will examine the effect of the Internet and e-retailing on backlist sales and marketing, on both adult and children's titles. In what ways are publishers and retailers making use of Web sites? How are e-retailers such as Amazon and B&N.com impacting backlist business? Please send us your thoughts on Internet and e-retailing developments. Also, we will do "case study" sidebars on various long-running backlist books (please provide print and/or sales stats plus what kinds of promotions or events keep these evergreen titles strong). We'd like suggestions of both adult and children's titles that have had a long sales life (not necessarily books that hit bestseller lists). Suggested guidelines are cumulative sales of about 500,000 for adult titles and 250,000 for children's titles. Please send information to Daisy Maryles, PW, 245 West 17th St., New York, N.Y. 10011. Please be sure to mark packages "Backlist."
