Dennis Smith, a fireman-turned-author who has written the classic book on fire fighting in New York (Report from Engine Co. 82) has signed with Viking to write his own eyewitness account of the World Trade Center attack, its impact on the fire department and its agonizing aftermath. Viking president Clare Ferraro bought North American, world English, first serial and audio rights to the book from agent Al Zuckerman and plans to publish next spring. Smith was on the scene right after the Twin Towers collapsed and will describe in graphic detail, and with his own inside knowledge, the day-by-day rescue and relief efforts. The book, to be called Report from Ground Zero, will have illustrations and will be edited by Rick Kot; there will be a subsequent Plume paperback.
