There's been a raft of movie deals for kids' books, old and new, what with Harry Potter and the upcoming Tolkien movie. Walden Media is partnering with the C.S. Lewis Company to do a live-action feature of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, from the Chronicles of Narnia, which it will also develop as a franchise.... Miramax has optioned the 1960 classic The Cricket in Times Square by George Selden, through the Paul Kohner agency, which represents FSG, the publisher, for movie deals.... The same agency dealt with Adam Lerner, publisher of Lerner Books, to buy a picture book about two kids and the movies called The Dream Factory Starring Anna & Henry by Bjorn Sortland, pictures by Lars Elling, for John H. Williams's Vanguard Films (which made Shrek).... Wendy Silbert, a new agent at the Scott Waxman agency, sold a book called Strapless by Deborah Davis to another Wendy, Hubbert at Putnam/Tarcher; it's about the mysterious Madame X painted by John Singer Sargent in Belle Epoque Paris.
