Talk about a devoted fan—while Ann Rule was signing copies of her latest true crime bestseller, Every Breath You Take, at a San Antonio, Tex., Barnes & Noble, paramedics were called to attend to a woman who nearly fainted. This fan refused to be moved from the premises, however, until she got her book signed! Published by the Free Press on January 14, Every Breath is now in its fourth printing (copies in print: 190,000), and has become Rule's fastest selling book ever. Rule, whose 16 previous books—all national bestsellers—total more than 12 million copies in print, kicked off a 12-city tour with interviews on CBS's Early Show and Court TV's Catherine Crier Live, plus an appearance at New York City's 92nd Street Y. Her appearances have drawn SRO crowds, with some 600 people lining up over an hour in advance of a recent signing in Sarasota, Fla. Local radio and TV coverage in the tour cities has been extensive, and just about every paper on the route has run features on Rule.
