Starting in early 2003, Random House will use its Crawfordsville, Ind., warehouse as the national distribution center for all of its children's book and audio titles. Random acquired the site as part of its purchase of Golden Books; the facility currently houses Golden's titles. Random is expanding and updating the warehouse. Random spokesperson Stuart Applebaum said that because the children's line has been steadily expanding, executives felt the division needed a standalone plant. The Crawfordsville site was chosen because it already has the equipment necessary to process and ship lower-priced mass merchandise books. Adult books will continue to be shipped from Random's Westminster, Md., facility.
