The following 12 authors are among the 24 winners of the 53rd annual Christopher Awards. The Christophers are awarded to people in the media—in the categories of books, feature films, television and cable—who have created works that "affirm the highest values of the human spirit."

Winners in Adult Books are Aging with Grace by David Snowdon (Bantam); Choosing Mercy by Antoinette Bosco (Orbis); Freedom's Daughters by Lynne Olson (Scribner); An Hour Before Daylight by Jimmy Carter (Simon & Schuster); John Adams by David McCullough (S&S); and Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich (Holt/Metropolitan).

Books for Young People winners are Kiss Good Night by Amy Hest, illus. by Anita Jeram (Candlewick Press); Beatrice's Goat by Page McBrier, illus. by Lori Lohstoeter (Atheneum Books for Young Readers/Anne Schwartz Books); Love That Dog by Sharon Creech (HarperCollins/Joanna Cotler Books); Uncle Daddy by Ralph Fletcher (Holt); Soldier X by Don Wulffson (Viking Children's Books); and Witness by Karen Hesse (Scholastic).

The winners will be honored at a presentation at the Time-Life Building in New York City on February 28.
