RealRead Inc., the animated online book preview service, has reached an agreement with Baker & Taylor to use the RealRead technology for close to 1,000 titles in its Title Source II database.

RealRead technology offers a digital re-creation of the physical act of reading a print book. When the reader clicks on the page, the software produces an animated sequence of turning the page from one to the next.

John Conti, v-p sales at RealRead Inc., told PW the deal will provide B&T with "more information about what books they sell." Conti said RealRead was a "low-cost way to increase a publisher's exposure to the library market. It's the equivalent of mailing out thousands of galleys to libraries." The titles using RealRead will each have a Web page in the title database with links to author information, reviews and a RealRead icon that will allow browsers to sample the book.
