Sophie Cottrell, former publicity director of Pantheon and Schocken Books, has been named associate publisher of Little, Brown's adult trade division. Cottrell succeeds Holly Wilkinson, who left the company to spend more time with her family.

Cottrell will report to Michael Pietsch, senior v-p and publisher of Little, Brown. She will be a member of LB's acquisition board and will oversee all noneditorial areas at LB hardcover and paperback, as well as Back Bay paperback. She will also supervise publicity and work with the AOL Time Warner Book Group's sales, marketing and advertising departments.

She began her publishing career as an assistant at Knopf in 1989 and rose to associate director of promotion in 1996. She was named publicity director at Pantheon and Schocken in 1998. Among the authors she has worked with are Michael Crichton, Anne Rice, James Ellroy, Ha Jin, James Gleick and Charles Baxter.
