Under a new agreement between Publishers Weekly and the online rights management service Rightscenter, subscribers to PW's twice-weekly e-mail "Rights Alert" and Rightscenter's Film Rights Directory will have advance access to all the magazine's adult book reviews in Forecasts, along with associated rights information about the titles.

The new service, to be known as Publishers Weekly Reviews & Rights Directory, is designed "to help agents and scouts find properties more easily and efficiently. It will help ensure that salable material is not overlooked," said Nora Rawlinson, PW editor-in-chief. It will provide the information to subscribers to the two services three days before its appearance in the print version of the magazine.

"Rights Alert," now two and a half years old, is written by the magazine's editorial director and Hot Deals columnist, John F. Baker. It already offers advance rights information on the magazine's starred reviews, and will continue to do so; the new service will allow subscribers to read all reviews via a link to the online database. Annual subscriptions to "Rights Alert," for about 100 issues, cost $199, and subscription information is available at www.publishersweekly.com, under "Newsletters."

Rightscenter's Film Rights Directory is a comprehensive, searchable database of film and dramatic rights information about literary properties. The addition of the full advance text of the PW reviews "is a huge coup for our growing list of producer and studio subscribers," said Tad Floridis, executive v-p of Rightscenter. "It gives them a clear edge."
