Mariane Pearl, widow of the Wall Street Journal reporter who was kidnapped and assassinated by terrorists in Pakistan, is writing a book about her husband and their shared life, and Nan Graham, editor-in-chief at Scribner, has bought world rights in the story. Ms. Pearl is herself a noted media figure, an award-winning documentary filmmaker who has written for French journals and hosted a daily radio show in France. She and her husband often traveled together on stories, in Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. According to Graham, Mariane "will tell the fiercely dramatic story of the five-week search for her husband after his abduction, and will explain why people like Pearl persist in their commitment." The agent was Kris Dahl at ICM, and the book is expected in early 2003.
