It took 14 years and seven novels for Alan Furst to become an overnight sensation—his new novel and first national bestseller, Blood of Victory, goes on PW's bestseller list this week at #14 (he also hits the New York Times list at #11 on September 15). Furst has long been a bookseller favorite, and groundwork for this book began with his attendance at this year's BEA and Random House Trade Paperbacks is bringing all six of his backlist titles back into print. The enthusiasm for the new one was so high that Random went back for a second printing before pub date; there have now been three printings, for a total of 60,000 copies. The book is a Book Sense 76 September/October pick. Reviews have been very good, and Furst is on an eight-city tour that runs through the end of September.
