Maureen O'Connell has resigned as executive v-p, finance, at Barnes & Noble and will become executive v-p and chief financial and administrative officer of Gartner Inc., a Stamford, Conn., research and advisory company. Larry Zilavy, B&N's CFO, will take on O'Connell's responsibilities.

O'Connell joined B&N in early 2000 and, among other things, helped B&N spin off GameStop, issue a $300-million convertible bond and secure a $500-million revolving credit facility. In a statement, O'Connell noted that her new job gives her operational as well as financial responsibilities.
