Two major women writers, both with big bestseller records, changed houses this week, though one stayed within the family. Elizabeth George, author of sprightly suspense novels all set in Britain, switched from Bantam to HarperCollins, where trade publisher Cathy Hemming took her on board with a very substantial (though unspecified) advance for two books to Robert Gottlieb at Trident Media Group. And Barbara Delinsky, published most recently by S&S after years at Harper, won a three-book hard/soft deal with Susan Moldow at Scribner, who had originally published her at her old house; this deal was made with Amy Berkower at Writers House. George will be edited at Harper by Carolyn Marino, who said the first of the new books will appear in 2004. Delinsky will continue to be edited by S&S's Michael Korda and Chuck Adams, and her next book, called Flirting with Pete, will be out next June.
