HarperCollins has added a high-profile editor in its New York office and brought in an editor and publisher at Harper San Francisco.

Mark Bryant, formerly an award-winning editor of Outside magazine, has been named an executive editor for the HarperCollins imprint, effective November 18. Bryant was most recently editor of Men's Journal in 1999 but left the publication a year later. While editing Outside, Bryant worked with such writers as Jon Krakauer and Sebastian Junger. He told PW he was hired to acquire "strong narrative nonfiction. Many of my magazine colleagues have moved into books, and it looks like a good move for me."

At HarperSF, Michael Maudlin, formerly editorial v-p at Christianity Today International, has been named editorial director. And Mark Tauber, who worked in the HarperSF marketing department before leaving to help found Beliefnet.com, is returning as associate publisher. Both will start November 18. Maudlin and Tauber will report to Stephen Hanselman, newly appointed senior v-p and publisher of HarperSF and Harper Information.

HarperSF editors will report to Maudlin, who will oversee acquisitions for the group and acquire and edit titles himself. Tauber will oversee sales and marketing at HarperSF and assist Hanselman in running the division.
