A book that is expected to be the last biographical word on the celebrated Beat poet, by the man who was his archivist for many years, has been signed by senior editor Paul Slovak at Viking. It's to be called I Celebrate Myself: The Life of Allen Ginsberg. Author Bill Morgan will draw on his remarkable access to the late poet and his circle and on privately taped interviews, journals and correspondence to show him as social and cultural prophet as well as poet. He will examine Ginsberg's struggles with his ego, his approach to drugs, his complicated sexuality, his musical role and his spiritual outreach, among other topics. Morgan, who has edited Ginsberg's essays and compiled a bibliography, as well as writing on the Beats, became Ginsberg's archivist 24 years ago and worked with him on an almost daily basis. Slovak bought world and first serial rights from agent Sterling Lord and will publish in fall 2006, to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Howl!
