Efforts to move the Frankfurt Book Fair to Munich as early as 2004 continue, according to a report posted on the Frankfurt Book Fair web site (www.frankfurt-book-fair.com).

Volker Neumann, director of the fair, has threatened to move it because of rising costs for hotels and the fair venue (News, Dec. 23, 2002). The Web report also cites concerns that plans to rebuild the Frankfurt trade fair center, scheduled for 2005, will interfere with the book fair.

Sources told PW that Frankfurt Book Fair officials have met with German regional authorities in Bavaria to discuss government assistance for the move.
