It's quite the week for big numbers, and megaselling author James Patterson's hangin' right in there with Hillary—his latest Little, Brown thriller, The Lake House, is already up to a million copies. According to publicity director Heather Rizzo, the author "had a huge pub day [June 9] in Philadelphia, where he attracted major crowds at three store events." Patterson kicks off a five-city tour this week; the first hundred fans in line at each event will get a Lake House beach towel. In other LB news: The Dogs of Babel, the latest Today club pick, debuts this week on our fiction list. The publisher just hit the reprint button for another 25,000 copies (total in print: 200,000), and, Rizzo said, "lots of media outlets are coming on board." A Boston Globe reporter shadowed author Carolyn Parkhurst last week for a forthcoming cover story on "the making of a bestseller."
