The same title—Laura Hillenbrand's Seabiscuit: An American Legend—heads both our mass market and trade paperback charts. A special illustrated collector's hardcover edition lands in the #11 spot on the nonfiction list. According to Ballantine, in-print figures for all three, plus the hardcover edition, published March 2001, keep increasing. The total for all four editions is 4,365,000. The trade paperback is up to 2.2 million copies; the mass market movie tie-in has 1.5 million copies; hardcover is up to 500,000; and the illustrated edition has 165,000 copies in print. The latter includes the full original text and some 150 historical photographs. According to Variety's weekend Top 10 chart, while Seabiscuit was #5 with $21.5 million, it enjoyed the best per-venue gross among the top five films. That was because it was showing on 1,989 screens, compared to 3,000-plus for the other four top movies; more screens will be added in the coming weeks.
