Columnist Molly Ivins comes out of Bush territory, Texas, as a scourge of the right in general and the president in particular (her Bushwhacked is still selling strong after six months), and she has signed a new two-book deal with Jonathan Karp, her Random House editor. The first of the new books will be less specific, but equally damning: a collection of Ivins's pithiest pieces on some of her favorite targets among corrupt or otherwise highly blameworthy politicians—naturally including the president. The second will be a paean to the Bill of Rights, explaining its significance in our lives and praising some of its staunchest defenders. This was a world rights deal, made with Dan Green at POM Inc., and the first book will be out this fall in time for the election.
