One of the more distinguished American veterans of World War II is former Senate Republican leader Bob Dole, and he has just signed with HarperCollins to write his memoir of that war, called A Veteran Remembers. Executive editor Tim Duggan bought world rights from Washington agent/attorney Bob Barnett at Williams & Connolly for a reported low seven figures. Dole said he had long considered sharing his memories of his wartime service, in which he was wounded and decorated, but only decided to go ahead after his sister recently discovered all his wartime letters to his family. The former senator, who has written two previous books about politics and humor, will talk not only about the war and his memories of the politics of that time but also about what the postwar years brought. His book will be published next year, the 60th anniversary of the war's end.
