Airie Stuart has been named editorial director and head of trade in the scholarly and reference division at Palgrave Macmillan (USA). Stuart, who served as executive editor at John Wiley for four years, told PW that while she was named to replace Michael Flamini, who moved to the St. Martin's trade division in February, the job will be a little different. The new position, Stuart said, will emphasize "strategic responsibility for the trade section of the Palgrave list and line management responsibilities."

Stuart will be based at the Palgrave Macmillan offices at St. Martin's Press in New York City. She will be responsible for acquiring a broad range of serious nonfiction for the trade list, including history, business, culture and economics. Stuart has also worked at Simon & Schuster, Warner Books and HarperCollins.
