As part of the ongoing streamlining of its American book printing operation, Quebecor World announced last week that it is downsizing its Kingsport, Tenn., book printing facility.

The plant will continue to specialize in book manufacturing, but with a staff that will be reduced from about 980 to 500. Some equipment will be redeployed to other Quebecor book facilities, and the company said it expects to create 280 jobs in other plants when the equipment is in place. The Kingsport facility had undergone extensive reorganization in 2002—2003 and was cited by executives last fall as a facility that had been successfully turned around.
