That is what irreverent and hardcore comedian George Carlin is doing with his latest hit, When Will Jesus Bring Home the Porkchops? Moving up from #9 to #3 on PW's nonfiction list in its second appearance, the book is selling strongly in all outlets, including independents and chains. Hyperion reports 375,000 copies in print and has scheduled signings and performances through mid-December. Carlin is making stops at 18 cities and expectations are for strong attendance. At one of his first appearances in New York, at the Barnes & Noble in Union Square, he drew more than 700 people and sold more than 500 books. He tries hard to piss off everyone (he figured the book's title would offend Christians, Jews and Muslims) and believes that "political correctness is America's newest form of intolerance." Whatever, his fans are busy reading the book.
