Another intriguing morning-after story, particularly in light of what occurred on Election Day, is the subject of a book just acquired by Riverhead's Sean McDonald. It's called Mending the Wall, and in it intelligence expert Larry L. Kolb describes how he unearthed a plot to use the terrorist group Al Qaeda to disrupt the election. Though details are scarce, Kolb is said to have been retained by the Homeland Security department to investigate a case that was worrying them; he unearthed a plot and foiled it by warning one of the candidates of what was afoot. Readers will have to wait until next fall for the details; that's when McDonald—who said the book was "all the more frightening because it's true"—plans to publish. He bought the project from agent Joel Gotler at Intellectual Property in Los Angeles. Kolb is the author of Overworld: The Life and Times of a Reluctant Spy, published a couple of months ago, that described his extraordinary life as a top-level operative born into a family of spies.
