Black Wind is not only Clive Cussler's 18th novel chronicling the adventures of Dirk Pitt, is is also the first written in collaboration with his son, Dirk Cussler, for whom the character was named (back when Dirk was four years old). On his recent multicity book tour for Putnam, Clive explained to fans that he plans to have the dual Cussler byline on one or two subsequent novels about Pitt, and then he'll turn the bestselling series over to his son. With 660,000 copies in print, the book is Cussler's third original 2004 bestseller, following the NUMA novel Lost City (written with Paul Kemprecos) and Sacred Stone (a trade paper original, written with Craig Dirgo). Last year's Pitt hardcover bestseller, A Trojan Odyssey, lands on the mass market bestseller list in the #5 spot; Berkley reports 1,140,000 copies in print.
