Of the making of books by and about American Idol winners or judges or runners-up there seems to be no end; the latest, just announced at Fireside/S&S, is the signing of Fantasia Barrino, the third winner, for an inspirational story called Life Is Not a Fairy Tale. Senior editor Nancy Hancock bought world and audio rights from Michael Broussard and Jan Miller at Dupree/Miller & Associates, for publication this fall. Fantasia learned to sing with her family in church in North Carolina, then, pregnant, dropped out of high school; she finally determined to turn around her life as a singer. No fairy tale there?
